Why TWC Classics?
From a chance encounter in 1992 to the late 90s, I was one of those weirdos that was glued to The Weather Channel. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it was a passion for severe weather. Maybe it was an interest in catchy jazz music that all my friends thought was lame. Or maybe my mom just didn't hug me enough.

Whatever the reason, this period in The Weather Channel's history has always fascinated me. And I've found that there are people out there just like me. People who miss Dan Chandler. People who dream about isobars. And people who've asked for a WeatherSTAR® for Christmas.

I started this site in the summer of 1997. The original idea was to share local forecast music playlists that I had, in the hopes that someone could identify the songs I was unable to identify. To my amazement, the site took off and I received a lot of compliments. A surge of hits came after the site was profiled in the Washington Post. Soon after, I began adding more content to the site. I added pictures and audio clips, and began covering all aspects of TWC.

In 2004, I began exchanging e-mails with a guy named Charles Abel. After some talk, we decided to combine our passions and create a better site. Late that summer, Charles became co-webmaster and brought lots of video clips, a WeatherSTAR® flavor guide, and a special feature he dubbed "The Way Back Play Back." "The Way Back Play Back" featured videos of local forecasts for a specific playlist. Before stepping down as co-webmaster in 2007, Charles completed six "episodes."

Thanks to our efforts on the site and a well-established message board, we were given the honor of welcoming the TWC STAR® Team in March of 2006. They are currently using our message board to help viewers who are having issues with their local forecast. Even without Charles as co-webmaster, the site continues to grow. Thanks mostly in part because of viewers like you who continue to contribute content!

"I recently found your website. I had no idea it existed. I've been a TWC fan/aficionado since cable service became available in my area (1985). Like yourself and others I'm always glued to the program. I enjoy every aspect of TWC: weather forecasts, LF music, history, OCM personalities, etc. I've built up a sizable library of tapes/dvds over the years and have found quite a bit of the music I've enjoyed listening to. "Hey guys - I can't believe this site exists. Nobody here at work appreciates the site like I do- (but then again- who knew there were bigger Weather Channel geeks out there than me). thanks for some great memories!! This is a great tribute."

"First, let me say appreciative I am that you guys started this site. I just stumbled on it yesterday. I've spent a great deal of time on your site trying to find a tune that has been haunting me since 1996. Finally, Victory. I was wondering if you can tell me where I can buy this. The tune is by Trammell Starks and the title of the piece is "Better Than Nothing." Any info on this would be wonderful."

- John W.
"I'm amazed that the information at all pertaining to TWC classic music is even available. Keep up the great work and service you have provided to people like me, who get a (in my case, a memory of a) song in there head and wonder if they could enjoy it once again."

- Lori
